Cops warn of ‘bandit’ tow truck operators allegedly holding cars for ransom

“Bandit” tow truck operators are allegedly prowling Los Angeles crash scenes, looking to swoop in before legitimate tow companies and take control of vehicles from shaken-up drivers. The West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station recently stopped a tow truck near La Brea Avenue and Fountain Avenue after deputies spotted a string of red flags. “If you’re ever in a collision, protect yourself,” LASD WeHo warns.
