Tularemia, commonly known as rabbit fever, is a highly infectious disease caused by the bacterium Francisella tularensis.   While it primarily affects wildlife — such as rabbits, hares, and rodents — ticks and deer flies frequently pick up the bacteria and transmit it to humans.
