New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani condemned the attempted attack but defended the right to peaceful protest. Two Pennsylvania teenagers have been charged with federal terrorism offences after allegedly attempting to detonate improvised explosive devices during a volatile protest outside Gracie Mansion, the official residence of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani. The suspects, 18-year-old Emir Balat and 19-year-old Ibrahim Kayumi, were apprehended by New York Police Department (NYPD) officers on Saturday, 7 March 2026, after allegedly throwing volatile homemade bombs into a crowd.
