Jasson Domínguez has been prominent on the New York sports radar for several years now, ever since talent evaluators first referred to the then-teenaged Yankees prospect as “The Martian” for his projected otherworldly hitting prowess. Carson Benge’s emergence in that same space has been more recent, of course, rising quickly through the Mets’ system after they drafted him out of Oklahoma State with the 19th overall pick in the 2024 MLB draft. As Domínguez faces an early crossroads in his pinstriped career — presumably blocked again in the starting outfield by the returns of Cody Bellinger and Trent Grisham alongside three-time MVP Aaron Judge — the Mets are giving Benge every opportunity to claim the right-field job following the trade of longtime outfield staple Brandon Nimmo.
