Donald Trump has publicly savaged five Republican senators who dared vote for a resolution limiting his military powers in Venezuela, a furious reaction that political analysts say reveals a troubling shift in the president's grip on reality. The Senate voted 52-47 on Thursday, 8 January, to advance Democratic Senator Tim Kaine's war powers resolution, which would block the president from deploying armed forces against Venezuela without congressional approval. Five Republicans broke ranks to join all 47 Democrats: Rand Paul of Kentucky, Susan Collins of Maine, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Todd Young of Indiana and Josh Hawley of Missouri.
