The FTSE 100, the index of the leading companies by market capitalisation in the United Kingdom, has made new records at the start of the year 2026, which is a good indication of the continuation of the boom of the previous year, as well as evidence of a high level of investor confidence in the financial markets of London. According to data from TradingEconomics, the index moved above the 10,000-point mark on 6 January, after extensive gains in commodity, defence and retail equities.
