Motown legend Martha Reeves explained that her rendition of the national anthem “wasn’t the performance I had hoped for” at the inaugural Women’s Professional Baseball League game in Springfield, Illinois on Saturday. Many fans noted differences in her vocals from earlier in her career after Reeves sang the Star-Spangled Banner at Robin Roberts Stadium before the first-ever WPBL game, featuring the Los Angeles Queens and New York Heights. Reeves cited weather conditions and explained that she couldn’t hear herself in a statement to TMZ Sunday.
