A Hawaii doctor accused of trying to kill his wife on a hiking trail by bashing her head with a rock claims he was acting in self-defense after they got into a fight over her cheating with a co-worker. Gerhardt Konig, 47, who is on trial for attempted murder, admitted to striking his wife, Arielle, while they were hiking on Oahu last March — but his defense argued that the anesthesiologist was attacked first when he tried to dump his wife over her affair. “She came after him, started kicking and punching,” defense attorney Thomas Otake said during his opening statements on Thursday.
