A charity bigwig accused of stealing $23 million in a California homeless services fraud appears to be just as terrified of the cameras as he is of a potential prison term. Alexander Soofer, 42, whom authorities accuse of living the high life on Golden State taxpayers’ dime, did all he could to avoid being photographed during his court appearance before Judge Theresa McGonigle on Monday. After pleading not guilty and being released on a $610,000 bond, his attorney, Michael Freedman, said his client would be making “no comment” while shielding him from cameras.
