New York City just had its safest January ever, with the number of shootings and murders plummeting to record new lows, NYPD Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said Monday. The number of homicides dropped 60% last month and shooting incidents were down 20% compared to January 2025, according to the commish. “Compared to all other Januarys, we have seen the lowest number of shooting incidents, the lowest number of shooting victims, and the lowest number of homicides on record,” Tisch said on FOX 5′ “Good Day New York” as she touted the latest crime stats.
