WASHINGTON — Violent crimes dropped by at least 25% across most categories in 2025, the first year of President Trump’s second term, according to a new Department of Justice report. Preliminary estimates in the National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS) released Monday found the majority of non-fatal violent crimes — including rapes, sexual assaults and robberies — dropped by one-quarter from 2024. Last year also saw a 31% reduction in aggravated assaults, a drop of 390,000 in raw numbers; a 25% reduction in burglary or trespassing, 460,000 fewer; and a 30% decrease in motor vehicle thefts, amounting to 349,000 fewer vehicles stolen.
