An elderly Mercedes driver trying to beat the light whizzed through a Bronx intersection — sparking a chain-reaction crash that ended with two pedestrians killed and multiple other vehicles struck in a wild broad daylight scene Friday, law enforcement sources said. The 81-year-old driver was heading west on Allerton Avenue when he blew through a steady red light at the Holland Avenue intersection around 2:15 p. m.
