A powerful nor’easter is set to slam parts of the New York City area with coastal flooding and strong winds over the weekend, meteorologists and city officials said Thursday. The storm is expected to pound parts of eastern Long Island and the Rockaways with high tides and wind gusts up to 60 mph starting Friday afternoon, said Accuweather senior meteorologist Dan Pydynkowski. Most of New York City, meanwhile, will be hit with heavy rain and wild wind gusts likely up to 40 or 50 mph, he said.
