Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed kept the focus on the victims of 9/11 on the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attacks — after previously using the date to mourn the Muslim civilians who died in ensuing US military operations. El-Sayed made a concerted effort to mark the occasion in a more traditional manner, leading a moment of silence at a campaign event Friday and releasing a 91-second video remembering the “cruel act of terror” and the “murder of innocent civilians” by terrorists who “attacked the idea of America. ” “We all remember where we were when the Twin Towers were hit,” El-Sayed said in his remembrance, recalling how he watched the second hijacked plane hit the South Tower while attending a high school chemistry class in the Detroit suburbs.
