Syria’s president seen using Visa credit card for first time ever after country taken off terror list

WASHINGTON — Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa used a Visa credit card for the first time ever in his country following the State Department’s decision to remove his country from its state sponsors of terrorism list. Al-Sharaa appeared to purchase coffee or tea in Old Damascus during a sit-down with Syria’s central bank governor Mohammed Safwat Raslan in a video released by the government. “For more than fifteen years, this simple transaction was impossible,” Syria’s new rapid response account posted on X Wednesday with a video of the purchase.
