The death of Los Alamos National Laboratory worker whose remains were discovered nearly a year after she went missing remains shrouded in mystery — after medical examiners revealed they can’t determine who left her with a fatal gunshot wound to the head. Melissa Casias, 54, disappeared in June 2025 while working at the New Mexico laboratory, where nuclear weapons research continues and the first atomic bomb was developed. 6 The remains of Casias were discovered on May 28, 2026, in Kit Carson National Park.
