This was the wrong weekend, the wrong opponent and the wrong venue for the Mets to no-show this badly for Carlos Mendoza. Because this was a weekend in which a more accomplished manager, Boston’s Alex Cora, already was axed by an underachieving team at 10-17, making it feel more realistic and permissible to act even this early for a Mets team that is now 9-19. Because this was supposed to be a soft-landing homestand that revived the 2026 Mets and instead they are 2-4 after being swept in three games by a Rockies team that is better than last year, but in the way a D student is better than an F student.
