Legendary late martial artist and action star Chuck Norris had deep roots in Los Angeles — where he opened the first of many karate studios across the city and surrounding suburbs. But the iconic film and TV star, who tragically died this week at 86, wouldn’t have recognized the current site of his very first dojo in Torrance. In 1960, he opened Chuck Norris Karate Studios at the corner of Hawthorne and 226th Street before eventually expanding to Redondo Beach, Sherman Oaks, Lakewood and Grenada Hills, according to the Daily Breeze.
