Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-Texas) told reporters Tuesday that he was “not going to resign” after the emergence of “sexual” text messages with a congressional aide who fatally lit herself on fire in September 2025. The Texas Republican’s primary campaign has been roiled by allegations that he had an extramarital affair with the staffer, Regina Santos-Aviles, in May 2024 — before her husband discovered the messages between Gonzales and his spouse.
