Beginning January 1, several states, including Indiana, Iowa, Nebraska, Utah, and West Virginia, implemented federal waivers allowing them to restrict the use of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits for certain products deemed to have limited nutritional value. Soda, candy, and energy drinks are among the categories affected, though exact rules vary by state.
