California may be better known for Hollywood stars, palm trees and bumper-to-bumper traffic, but head off the beaten path and the Golden State can still serve up a serious dose of the Wild West. From abandoned mining camps frozen in time to Gold Rush towns where visitors can ride a stagecoach and belly up to a historic saloon, California is packed with places that look like they were ripped straight out of a Western. And in many cases, they actually were.
