For years, investors generally had to use different providers for different parts of their portfolios. Stocks and ETFs were held through traditional brokerages, cryptocurrencies were purchased through crypto exchanges, and physical gold and silver often required precious-metals dealers, specialized storage providers, or separate retirement-account companies. That structure made sense when each market attracted a different type of investor.
