ICE agents and bystanders in Minneapolis after the January 07, 2026 shooting of Renée Good The large-scale immigration enforcement operation in Minneapolis significantly eroded public trust in law enforcement and caused widespread economic disruption, according to new research from the University of California, San Diego. The study found that nearly 60% of residents in the Twin Cities reported being less likely to trust local law enforcement following the federal operation, known as Operation Metro Surge. About 40% of respondents said they would be less likely to seek help from authorities going forward.
