A sudden surge in global fuel prices has pushed the United States Postal Service (USPS) into uncharted territory, prompting the agency to introduce its first-ever fuel surcharge on parcels and signalling a fundamental shift in how America's mail carrier pays for its vast delivery network. The move will add an 8% 'fuel fee' to parcel shipments beginning in April 2026, according to people familiar with the policy. The surcharge will apply only to packages and is currently expected to remain in place until January 2027.
