Gov. Gavin Newsom’s Prop 50 passion project scored Supreme Court approval Wednesday, handing Democrats a major strategic victory before this year’s midterm elections. Newsom championed the redistricting effort, pitching it as California’s answer to Texas’s new congressional map from last summer that could hand Republicans up to five extra seats.
