Known as "narcomantas," these banners are commonly used by drug cartels to expose betrayals, distance themselves from crimes, and send messages to the public or to rival factions. Internal wars between drug cartels have long been marked by betrayals on both sides. One of the most notorious cases in Mexican organized crime involved the Beltrán Leyva brothers and the Sinaloa Cartel.
