The US will keep higher tariffs on European carmakers in place until the EU lowers rates on American goods — as two of the world’s largest economies finally locked in a framework trade deal initially hammered out last month. The two sides fired off a joint statement Thursday listing the commitments made after President Trump and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced the agreement on July 27 following months of negotiations. That framework included EU commitments to purchase $750 billion in liquified natural gas, oil and nuclear energy from the US, along with $600 billion in additional investments in the American economy.
