Beyond the scientific feat that goes into achieving takeoff, airlines must coordinate tens of thousands of bags, employees, and travelers to make sure everyone gets to where they're going. Despite the sheer effort involved, moving people through the sky from point A to point B isn't what makes the bottom line soar in the airline business these days.
