Their absence doomed the Knicks, who blew a chance to end this best-of-seven, opening-round series with a shoddy performance in a 106-103 defeat to the gritty Pistons at the Garden. Instead of getting rest ahead of the Eastern Conference semifinals, they will have to head back to Detroit for Game 6 Thursday night.
