After a year-long investigation, the NBA ruled that the Clippers violated the league’s salary cap circumvention rules by “initiating off-court income opportunities” for star forward Kawhi Leonard with four different companies that did business with the team. And the punishments were harsh. As a result of the investigation, the Clippers have been stripped of five first-round picks, were issued a $30 million fine and the league suspended owner Steve Ballmer, President of Business Operations Gillian Zucker and President of Basketball Operations Lawrence Frank for various periods.
