The brewing “Super El Niño” will wreak havoc on global weather patterns this fall and winter could spike global food prices by 16% — and the effects could linger through 2028, according to a dire report. Staples including rice, sugar, palm oil coffee and cocoa at risk are at risk of increases between 50% and 100%, according to a Goldman Sachs report published in June. The cost increases in staples could ripple across the global economy, gradually raising food prices well into 2028 before supplies are replenished and prices stabilize, the Goldman Sachs analysis found.
