The American dream is reaching out to help other people, no matter what they look like

Through July 4, The Post, in conjunction with the Milken Center for Advancing the American Dream, is featuring US citizens explaining what the American dream means to them in 2026 — including Padmanee Sharma. An immunologist and oncologist at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, she is one of the nation’s preeminent researchers into specialized cancers. It feels, to me, like I’ve been living the American Dream from the time we arrived in this country in 1980.
