A Garden Grove City Council meeting turned into a fiery showdown Tuesday night over a chemical tank emergency at GKN Aerospace that forced the evacuation of 50,000 Orange County residents over Memorial Day weekend and sparked growing calls to shut the facility down. The special hearing drew hours of testimony and heated accusations as residents demanded accountability, full compensation, and long-term medical coverage after an overheating chemical tank at the aerospace plant triggered the mass evacuation and cleanup operation. At the center of the dispute is a $3 million contribution from GKN Aerospace to the OC Community Resilience Fund, a disaster-relief partnership run by the Orange County United Way and 211OC.
