A powerhouse public relations firm hired by California to help boost its image has a controversial history tied to the Saudi royal family. Edelman, one of the largest communications firms in the US, has been contracted by the state to help improve its reputation following Gavin Newsom’s tumultuous run as governor, to the tune of around $19 million in taxpayer funds. The campaign began Monday and will run through the end of the year — around the same time Newsom’s term is set to conclude.
