Mayor Eric Adams will announce Friday a major investment in the NYPD that will increase the number of uniformed officers by 5,000 — bringing the total number of New York’s finest to the highest level in 20 years, The Post has learned. The much-needed investment will bring the number of NYPD officers to 40,000 by Fiscal Year 2029. The announcement comes just days ahead of New York City’s closely-watched mayoral election in which socialist Zohran Mamdani —who has backed the “defund the police” movement  — is expected to defeat former New York Gov.
